December finds Mixed Company celebrating its fifth
anniversary and, as always, new talent is offered amidst
artists who've exhibited here before. First Friday promises
a real party at this place, not that it doesn't always glow
on once a month with a festive atmosphere.
Mixed Company regular Jenie
Moore gives a nod to the late great Audrey Hepburn
by painting facsimiles of posters of her films, especially
those that ran in the Kennedy era.
Jacqueline Reis makes
her debut with photography taken during her time in China.
The work is stunning and covers two perspectives. There
are candid man-on-the-street shots, and other work that
features shots of Buddhist icons taken from dizzying angles
that at once heighten their spirituality while lending them
an added emphasis of immediacy.
Newcomer Syd Torchio has chronicled
the streets of Philadelphia for years with an inimitable
will and an indomitable palette. His latest work finds him
moving forward yet again, with grand dollops of paint colliding.
His method of composition is a perfect fit in visually describing
Philly in all its grand eloquence.
